Question:
How does open tracking work?
Solution:
Open tracking is useful to build metrics gauging how active members are engaging in a mailing campaign.
Open tracking works by inserting a unique transparent image into the content of an HTML message.
When a user opens the message in an HTML client, the image is loaded from the ListManager web service. As each image has a unique URL, ListManager is able to log which mailing and member the open was generated from.
Considerations:
It is important to note that open tracking will not work if the receiving mail client does not load the image.
- The "Preview" pane of most mail clients will not load images.
- Some bulk mail countermeasures can block all images.
- Plain text only content cannot use open tracking.
