Match phrases can be used for the following scenarios:

  • Block email postings automatically, based on preset criteria
  • Block a particular auto-reply from posting to a discussion list
  • Block inappropriate language

Adding a Match Phrase

  1. Navigate to "Utilities: Automated Messages: Match Phrases"
  2. Choose the "Create New Match Phrase" button.
  3. For the "Search Phrases:" field, place the word(s) or phrase(s) with one on each line. You can add " " to the match phrase to limit the exclusion to the word as written. For example if you reject cialis the word specialist will be blocked as the center of the word specialist contains cialis. To fix this add parentheses "cialis".
  4. For the "Reject this message:" option, choose if the message should still be posted to the list if it contains one of the search phrases.
  5. For "Response Document:" a pre-existing item in content (Content: View Content) can be selected to automatically return to the sender.
    • This is useful as a way to provide an explanation of why a message may have been rejected.
  6. Choosing the "Advanced" tab also provides additional options.
    • "Notify email address:" can notify a particular address if the match phrase is triggered.
    • "Applies To:" can apply the phrase to a particular list, site, or the entire server.
  7. Click "Save".
  8.
